Note: No class will be held on 7/4. This Summer Dr. Woods will lead students on an exploration of the craft of creative writing with particular attention to the creation and development of original works of poetry and fiction. To do this, students will study poetry and fiction from the finest authors, learning how to read with a writer’s attention to craft and process. Students will then create their own original works of poetry and fiction, which will be discussed and developed in a series of “writer’s workshops.” In these workshops we will develop the skills of constructive encouragement and critique. The goal, by course’s end, is the formation of an engaged community of “inklings”--a close fellowship of writers who are equipped to inspire and encourage one another in their craft as writers long after the course has ended.
