Exploring Mixed Media July 27-31 Mikayla Spivey This experimental mixed media camp invites young artists to treat the studio like a creative lab. Students will explore what happens when materials, ideas, and processes collide—testing, layering, remixing, and sometimes breaking the “rules” to see what’s possible. Using drawing, painting, collage, found materials, and unexpected tools, students will investigate how artists experiment, play, and take creative risks. The emphasis is on process over perfection: following curiosity, embracing mistakes, and discovering how surprising results can lead to powerful and beautiful artworks. Students will learn that experimentation is a key part of how artists think and work, and that playful exploration can be just as meaningful as the final piece. This class is perfect for curious makers who want to push their creativity, try new approaches, and make art that’s bold, thoughtful, and uniquely their own.
