About This Activity
Description
Soundscapes Level 2: Instrument Readiness is the second developmental level in the Soundscapes learning progression. Students learn to play an assigned woodwind or brass instrument while developing proper posture, instrument care, tone production, breath support, music reading, rhythm, and ensemble skills. Students rehearse regularly, perform in at least four public concerts, and build confidence, responsibility, teamwork, perseverance, leadership, and belonging. Progression to Level 3: Ensemble Readiness is based on demonstrated development on the Soundscapes rubric. Completion of Soundscapes Level 1: Music Readiness is required before registering for Level 2: Instrument Readiness. A limited number of fourth-grade students who have not completed Soundscapes Level 1 may apply through the alternative eligibility process with a positive recommendation from a current school teacher or administrator. Instrument assignments are based on student interest, readiness, instrument availability, and ensemble needs. A student’s first-choice instrument cannot be guaranteed
