Youth Basketball League, Co-ed Rookie DivisionThank you for joining our Parks, Recreation and Community Services Youth Basketball League! Our Rookie Division is co-ed and for children ages 7-8 years old by November 2, 2025.
This league is run in partnership with North Bay Basketball Academy (NBBA). Our youth league is designed for both brand-new and experienced players. The goal is to create a fun, supportive environment where every child can learn and grow through basketball.
The Rookie Division focuses on developing fundamentals rather than game strategy. Players will use a size 5 ball, and hoops will be set at 8 feet. Keep reading for more details about our Co-ed Rookie Division.
VOLUNTEER COACHES: The success of this program is dependent on volunteer coaches. If you are interested in volunteering, please email Sarah Bailey at sbailey@novato.org for more information.
ASSESSMENT NIGHT: Assessment Night will take place on the weekday you register for (Thursday, October 16th at 5:00 PM). On assessment night, players will practice foundational skills while staff evaluate each child’s level of play. Teams will be formed based on skill level, AND staff will do their best to take school/location into account. Following Assessment Night, coaches will notify players of their team roster and practice time.
PRACTICES: Teams will have one-hour practice on Thursdays starting October 23nd. Practice times will be between 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM. Each team’s practice time will be released after the Assessment Night. Practice will be held at the Hill Gym, 1560 Hill Road.
There will be NO practice on the following dates: 11/27, 12/25, and 1/1
GAMES: This division will not keep score and instead NBBA staff will be on the court as the official, helping with both player development and game flow.
REQUIRED JERSEYS: Each player must wear a City of Novato athletic jersey for each game. Jersey's are available for purchase at the Novato Gymnastics Center, 950 7th Street, and the Margaret Todd Senior Center, 1560 Hill Road. Jersey's are $20 each.
Games will be held at the Hill Gym on the following Sundays: 11/2, 11/9, 11/16, 12/7, 12/21, 1/11, 1/25, 2/1, and the season will end on 2/8 with a mini tournament.
Refunds: Once the program begins, no refunds will be given. Additionally, there will be no make-ups, pro-rated reimbursements, or similar for days missed. Thank you for your understanding.
Cancellations: Cancellations must be requested by no later than the Monday the week BEFORE the program begins. Refunds after that time will not be accommodated. We will make every attempt to fill your child’s spot. If we are able to do so, we will provide you will with a full refund, less our $13.00 processing fee.
