About This Activity

Description

Intro to Jamming and Playing Music with Others. This class is open to anyone with at least one year of playing experience on the violin or fiddle (or with instructor permission). Participants should feel open to learning by ear (no need to be comfortable or proficient in doing so). You will be provided with all of the tunes in video-tutorial format prior to the beginning of the class to give you a chance to learn them. We will look at one of these tunes each week, break down any difficult parts, and practice playing together as a group. We will also go over harmonies and accompaniment techniques for Jam settings. Participants must provide their own violin and shoulder rest for this class. It must be inspected by RL Ray violin shop prior to class to guarantee playing condition. If this is not the case, a rental instrument will be required for class.

* 8/6 class will be held at shelter 4. Participants must bring their own violin (or rent one - $25 for the month from RL Ray Violins) and adjustable shoulder rest (KUN, Everest, or FOM brands, or similar) to the first class. If you are using a personal or family violin, please bring it to RL Ray Violin Shop, prior to the first class, to have it tuned and inspected. If the violin is not in playing condition, and recommended repairs cannot be made, please rent a violin instead. Additional recommended supplies (optional): Handheld recording device (phone or otherwise), notebook, pencil. Instructor: Pamela Margon, www.olyfiddle.com
