For students with 1–2 years of formal instruction on violin or fiddle, ages 8–14 This fun, interactive class invites young musicians to deepen their violin or fiddle skills through the vibrant world of folk music. Students will explore traditional tunes, learn to play more confidently by ear, and develop listening skills to pick up melodies and rhythms without relying solely on sheet music. Along the way, we’ll work on technique, musicality, ensemble playing, and creative expression. The session culminates in a final-day concert where students share the music they’ve learned with family and friends. This class is perfect for players ready to grow, explore new styles, and experience the joy of making music together. Students must bring the appropriate-sized violin in playing condition and a shoulder rest. Instructor: Pamela Margon
Prerequisite: Must have 1–2 years of formal instruction on violin or fiddle. Students must have the appropriately sized violin in playing condition (verified by RL Ray violin shop before the start of class) and a shoulder rest.
