About This Activity

Description

At the Y, our youth basketball league helps 11 to 14 year olds develop fundamental basketball skills while teaching teamwork, strategy, and sportsmanship. Skills taught include passing, shooting, dribbling, and the rules of the game. The focus of our youth basketball leagues is to have fun, meet new friends, and play in a hybrid recreational-competitive environment.

The basketball league will be a 8-week season.

Practices will be held on Thursdays nights at 7:15-8:00 or 8:00-8:45pm.
Games will be held on Saturdays. Your team's game will begin at either 11:15-12:00 or 12:00-12:45pm.
Location: Palm harbor YMCA Field House
What Do I Need:Please have your child wear athletic clothes and closed toe shoes. You should also have them bring a water bottle and a basketball to use during practice. Please clearly label all items you send with your child.
Spectators should bring a chair to use when watching the games or practices. Please do not bring food into the gym, and all liquids should be in a bottle that has a secure cap and seal.
Volunteer Opportunities: YMCA Sports are based on seven guiding principles: everyone plays, safety first, fair play, positive competition, sports for all, sports for fun, and family involvement. Our leagues are supported by parent volunteers who are engaged as coaches, referees, and fans.
If you are interested in being a volunteer this season, please contact Jon Gutierrez at jgutierrez@suncoastymca.org
Parent Communication: All notifications will be done using the email address that you have on file. If you are not sure which email address is on file, please contact us to verify or update your contact information.
Team Sideline is the application we use to organize sporting events and get information to parents. This is where practice times, location, game schedule, and necessary information will be posted. You can choose to access Team Sideline by app or by website, and all communication from the Sports Administration Team will be sent to the email address you provided during registration.
Special Requests:Coaches:We appreciate our volunteer coaches and recognize that you may have a coach that your child has previously played with during a prior season. We are unable to allow requests or pairings with a specific coach, and expect players to participate in this league to learn sportsmanship and have an enjoyable experience, regardless of the volunteer coach that they are placed with.
Friends:We understand that playing sports with friends can make the experience more enjoyable, however we want each parent to encourage their child to view their team placement with an open mind. We are unable to accommodate requests. Please help them see this as an opportunity for them to get to meet new players and make new friends.
