By designing, building, and releasing an actual iPhone app with their peers, participants will learn the skills to be a coder and the mindset to be an entrepreneur. Through this process, campers will gain an exciting set of 21st-century tech skills, while working as a group and learning about innovation and entrepreneurship. During the first part of the course, students learn about logic, coding, and design through collaborative exercises. The final project is to make an app for a local non-profit organization, which has requested an app from this class. Previous students have created real apps that are being used right now by a mental health charity, a New York non-profit, and a charter school in the UK. Students don’t need previous experience or special software, just a love of business, design, or coding, as well as the desire to have fun! All they need is a laptop, and by the end of camp, they’ll have their own iPhone app on the App Store to share with family and friends, just like a Silicon Valley entrepreneur. Please note: Campers can enroll for one week or for multiple weeks, as groups (which will maintain physical/social distance) will be determined each week, according to each camper’s individual level of experience.
