About This Activity

Description

S'edav Va'aki Museum: This recorded program, which is about 20 minutes in length, highlights the daily life of the Ancestral Sonoran Desert People, known to archaeologists as the Hohokam. They lived in Phoenix around A.D. 450 to 1450. Learn what type of homes they lived in and how they built them. Discover how courtyards and nearby ramadas were utilized for daily chores and skills, such as pottery construction. This program is designed to meet Arizona State Education standards for 2nd through 4th grade skill levels in Social Studies, Visual Arts, and Science.

Note: Supplemental hands-on Craft Kits are available for purchase (additional fees apply) during virtual program registration.
Pony Bead Indian Corn: Make your own ear of corn with beads and learn about one of the many crops grown by the Ancestral Sonoran Desert People.
Pinch Pot - Prehistoric Pottery: Try your hand at constructing your own pinch pot and learn about Southwestern prehistoric pottery techniques.
Plaster Petroglyphs: Have fun creating your own plaster petroglyph using design inspiration from the Ancestral Sonoran Desert People.
Each Craft Kit order includes the materials for the craft and a PowerPoint with step-by-step instructions. Call 602-495-0901 to make an appointment for pickup of the craft materials at S'edav Va'aki Museum, 4619 E. Washington Street Phoenix, AZ 85034.
All virtual programming and craft activities must be scheduled a minimum of two weeks prior to the proposed date of the program allowing museum staff time to prepare the supplies and virtual links requested.
