About This Activity
Description
Join us at Maryvale Community Center for the next class in our Musical Theatre program! This class will be for our more advanced participants who have previously taken theatre classes at Maryvale or outside of the city though everyone is welcome to register. The first day of the class will function as an audition and each participant should come prepared with the following:1 to 1.5 minutes of a song showcasing their acting and vocal ability -Please find a karaoke track for your participant to sing along to, they can either play it from their own device or send the link to samantha.adams@phoenix.gov-This should be fully memorized.
A 60 to 90 second monologue -A wonderful place to find monologues is: Free Monologues for Kids-This does not have to memorized and the participant may read from the page. However, they should be familiar with it and able to act with character.
Following the first class, our instructors will discuss with parents whether or not their child has passed. If the participant does not pass their audition they are welcome to remain in the class. However, this class will be catered toward more advanced participants and will move at a faster pace. We are offering a beginner friendly class on Tuesdays which will focus on dance and building self-confidence as a performer!
Past audition day, participants will be assigned a musical theatre role for them to study. They will work through a song and iconic scene from their specific show and work to connect with their character. We look forward to creating more theatre magic with our community!
