About This Activity

The 2027 Checking & Defense Camp builds confident defensemen through professional instruction in awareness, angling, body position and legal contact. Checking dummies and progressive drills teach controlled techniques for giving and receiving contact to help reduce injury risk. Forwards are welcome - many forwards switch. Defensemen sharpen gap control, backward skating, angling and stick positioning. Using Jeff Serowik’s curriculum, players read the play, defend inside the dots and apply DAP (Defense Against Post), refining each skill in game-situational battles. Over four days and 16+ hours on ice, players train in a 5:1 player-to-coach environment. Coed defensemen, ages 6–17 welcome. Groups split by skill level and age. Training builds age-appropriate contact skills and prepares rising Bantams for checking. Coaches emphasize USA Hockey rules, respect for opponents and avoiding head contact, late hits and checks from behind. **What Campers Walk Away With:** - Pro Ambitions camp jersey - Pro Ambitions camp t-shirt - Written player evaluation from Pro Ambitions coaches on strengths & areas to improve **Sample Full-Day Itinerary (may vary slightly by location)** - 8:00 AM | Monday Check-In Begins - 8:15–9:00 AM | Check-In, Locker Room & Dynamic Warm-Up - 9:00–10:00 AM | On Ice: Defensive Skating — Backward skating, pivots, gap control and angling to limit time and space - 10:00–11:00 AM | On Ice: Contact Skills — Checking dummies, body position and controlled contact matched to age, skill and playing rules - 11:10 AM–12:00 PM | Dryland Training — Balance, agility, core strength and body control - 12:00–12:35 PM | Lunch - 12:40 PM | Locker Room - 1:00–2:00 PM | On Ice: Defensive Positioning — Inside the dots, DAP, puck retrievals and first passes - 2:00–3:00 PM | On Ice: Game Situations — 1v1, 2v1 and 2v2 battles; rush reads, pinching decisions and legal contact - 3:15–4:00 PM | Dryland Training — Safety review, team bonding and recovery - 4:00 PM | Checkout
