Junior Lifeguard AcademyThis is a free program that teaches more than lifeguarding techniques, first aid and CPR/AED training. The five-week program also teaches, leadership, responsibility, and teamwork to youths 14 to 17 years old. Beginning June 8, participants will meet three times a week (Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday). At the end of the program, participants will demonstrate what they have learned at the All-City Skills Showcase at Encanto Pool on Saturday, July 18th.
Participation in the Jr. Lifeguard program prepares youth to learn about lifeguarding but does not certify them as a lifeguard.
If your youth is 15 years old, they will be invited enroll in a free lifeguard certification course to be ready to lifeguard next summer.
This separate StarGuard lifeguard certification course is a free component and includes an 8-hour online training program and certifies the participant in CPR, Basic First Aid, and StarGuard Elite. If participants are unable to complete the separate training, they can sign up for SGE courses later in the year.
Please Note: According to the certifying agency, StarGuard Elite, this certification is only good for employment with the City of Phoenix for those who are 15 years old. Once the person becomes 16 years old, they can request a copy of their certificate.
