Ages 5-11
In honor of the 250th anniversary of America in 2026, this special summer camp invites young historians to step back to the year 1776 and explore how everyday people lived, worked, and created during the nation’s founding era. Throughout the week, campers will discover daily life in the late 18th century through hands-on crafts, art projects, games, and experiments inspired by the past. From handmade toys and textiles to early tools, foodways, and design, campers will learn how creativity, resourcefulness, and community helped shape a new nation. Each day highlights a different aspect of life in 1776, encouraging curiosity, imagination, and problem-solving through active exploration in a historic setting.
During the week, campers will take part in interactive activities such as making candles, learning simple embroidery and stitching, creating handmade toys, experimenting with paper marbling, and building their own mini colonial cabin using craft and recycled materials. Campers will also enjoy garden-themed crafts inspired by colonial foodways and plants, colonial-style dress up, traditional games, and group projects, culminating in a mini colonial parade and shared celebration. Through play, storytelling, and hands-on making, campers will gain a deeper appreciation for history while developing creativity, collaboration, and confidence as they bring the past to life.
