About This Activity
Description
Kendo is the Japanese martial art of bamboo fencing, teaching patience, discipline, posture, physical and mental health. Kendo practitioners dress in the traditional attire of the ancient samurai, and use shinai (bamboo swords) to strike four specific areas on the opponent while simultaneously calling out a loud kiai (voice) as an accurate signal that the strike is made with strong spirit. Kendo is characterized by constant respect for one’s opponent, the honoring of culture and etiquette, and the importance of polishing one’s own heart through training. Instructors have experience in teaching and coaching kendo to students of all ages. A one-time $70 initial registration fee and $30 supply fee (for the shinai) is due to the instructor on the first day of class for new members.

If a registrant is 5 or 6 years old, please make sure that an adult also registers to Fri basic class to escort the child for the entire session. If an adult cannot register along with the child, we wouldn't recommend you register the kid alone and defer the registration until the kid turns 7 year old.
