About This Activity
Directors: Ashely Puckett Gonzales Grades 5th-12th SYNOPSIS: On the morning of his first day teaching, nervous newcomer Tom Mizer is surprised when characters from Schoolhouse Rock come to life from his TV and his imagination. These lively alter egos guide him through core subjects using memorable songs: grammar with “A Noun Is a Person, Place or Thing,” math with “Three Is a Magic Number,” adjectives in “Unpack Your Adjectives,” civics through “Just a Bill” and “The Preamble,” science with “Circulation” and “Interplanet Janet,” and the classic “Conjunction Junction.” Through music and imagination, Tom gains the confidence to teach, ending with the energetic finale “Interjections.” AUDITIONS: There will be no formal auditions for this production. Casting will be determined based on character needs, student fit, and prior performance experience with our program. If an individual audition becomes necessary for a specific role, we will contact that student directly. REHEARSALS: SCHEDULE INFO: Rehearsal Day/Time: Wednesdays, 11:00 AM–2:00 PM Rehearsal Dates Wed, Nov 12 through Wed, Jan 28 – Final run before tech week Wed, Nov 26 – No rehearsal (Thanksgiving Break) Dec 24 & 31 – No rehearsal (Winter Holiday Break) Tech & Performance Week Mon, Feb 2 – Tech rehearsal (11:00 AM–2:00 PM) Tues, Feb 3 – Tech rehearsal (11:00 AM–2:00 PM) Wed, Feb 4 – Hopefully first performance and can run to Feb 18th! Additional tech days (if needed) – TBD; may be scheduled after Jan. 28 depending on bookings. There might need to be added rehearsals. This might need to be a discussion once we get into rehearsals and talk with families about availability/needs. Performance Dates: Target Opening Day: February 4th 2026, TARGET DAYS FOR SHOWS: Wednesdays, 11AM-2PM. (2 potential shows during a three hour timeframe) Other possibilities may come through as cast gives conflict schedules and booking begins.
