This course is designed for rising eighth and ninth graders who wish to proceed to Honors Geometry as the next level in the Mathematics pathway. This intense six-week course covers a multitude of algebra topics including solving and graphing equations and inequalities, and linear, exponential, and quadratic equations. Coursework will include at least two to three hours of mandatory and graded homework, self-study exercises, and multiple assessments. Formal assessment will include a final exam. Students choose from one of the two program options offered for this course: For-Credit and Not-For-Credit. Please carefully review below the criteria for each option and make the appropriate selection during enrollment. For-Credit: Rising Grade 8 students may take this course for-credit to proceed to Honors Geometry if they have: (1) Earned 90% or higher in Advanced Pre-Algebra and (2) Pass summer Algebra 1 with a cumulative grade of 95% or higher. The cumulative grade will appear on a progress report or transcript. Not-for-Credit: Students who took Algebra 1 prior may take this course to solidify fundamentals. Rising Grade 8 students, who took Algebra 1 in Grade 7 but did not meet the criteria to advance to Honors Geometry, may take this course to satisfy Algebra 1 requirements if they: (1) Earned 70%-85% in the academic year Algebra 1 course and (2) Pass the summer Algebra 1 course with a cumulative grade of 85% or higher. The cumulative grade will not appear on a progress report or transcript.
