During Session I, students will explore the basics of music theory. Topics covered will include: scale degrees and the roles they play in composition, melody vs. harmony, and the circle of fifths. Students will explore the history, influence, and music of composers that came before them and explore artistic and emotional influences in their own lives. By the completion of Session I, each student will have composed their own melody and will perform their melody on their own instrument. This session is open to rising Notre Dame 7th or 8th grade students who have completed at least one year of a middle school band program. Materials Provided: Composition Notebook. Students should bring: tablet, pencils, instruments. Minimum of four students to run the camp. Please not our 50% cancellation fee.
