Spark your son's curiosity for the fascinating world of science! The program is designed to encourage the discovery of science through uniquely engaging activities and trips. Each day at Science Camp is entirely different and every day the camp is on an engaging day trip in small groups each led by one of our full-time teachers. Some Planned Activities and Trips: • A visit to the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, with a special presentation on the space shuttle, satellites, and model rocket launches. • An in-depth study of The Chesapeake Bay, including some nearby islands in the Bay • Dissection of sharks and identification of all major organs as an intro to Marine Biology • Day trips to the Baltimore Aquarium & the Maryland Science Center at the Inner Harbor • A trip to Luray Caverns and an opportunity to learn about cave formations and geology. • Exploring the tiny, living world of microorganisms through the use of lab microscopes • A visit to the U.S. Naval Observatory Dome Telescope with a presentation on Space. • Themed tours, including going behind the scenes at some of the best Smithsonian Institute exhibits, museums, and archives. • The traditional and famous helicopter egg drop engineering contest for camper prizes • Construction of giant water balloon slingshots and model rocketry as a fun way of learning about Newtonian Physics Staff: Mr. Andrew Reed, Head of the Middle School, and Mr. Kyle Blackmer, Heights teacher, both direct and instruct the program.
