About This Activity
Does your youth love animation AND music? In this hands-on workshop, young artists will bring a real Portland-based band’s music to life through animation! Using the digital drawing app Procreate, students will animate a segment of a song, seamlessly connecting their frames with their classmates' to create a one-of-a-kind exquisite corpse-style music video. Guided by teaching artist and animator Evelyn Ross—participants will explore the magic of animation—including timing, movement, and syncing visuals to sound. Students will experiment with styles of animation, learn pro techniques, and bring their ideas to life, frame by frame. Over two Saturdays, they’ll experiment with visual styles, brainstorm creative ideas, and get hands-on experience animating to music. By the end of the workshop, their work will be combined into a full-length animated music video! No prior animation experience is needed—just a love of creativity, music, and storytelling in motion!
