Animate to the beat in this weeklong collaborative stop motion animation camp for middle schoolers. Guided by teaching artist and animator Andrés Eduardo, campers will work together to create an animated music video for a real Portland-based band using the stop motion animation. Camp begins with examples of animated music videos to inspire ideas and help the group develop a unified creative direction. Youth will learn essential animation skills including timing and movement, syncing visuals to music, storyboarding, and frame-by-frame animation. In addition to building technical skills, campers will practice creative problem-solving, teamwork, and visual storytelling as they brainstorm ideas, refine their animations, and respond to feedback. They’ll experiment with different animation styles and techniques while collaborating on a shared concept, connecting individual animated segments into a cohesive, exquisite corpse–style music video. By the end of the camp, participants create a fully developed animated music video to share with friends and family. No prior animation experience is required—just curiosity, creativity, and a love of music and visual storytelling.
