Orff Ensemble Lab is a hands-on music workshop where students create, play, and explore music together using the Orff approach—learning through playing, listening, and experimenting. Students will work as a whole group using barred instruments, drums, body percussion, and rhythm instruments to build layered musical pieces in an ensemble setting. Activities focus on playing more complex melodies, managing multiple independent parts, and strengthening ensemble skills like listening, timing, and teamwork. Improvisation will be woven throughout the camp as students experiment with creating their own rhythms and melodies in a supportive, low-pressure setting. Along the way, students will explore groove, variation, and musical conversation — opening the door to styles like Orff-inspired jazz. This camp welcomes all skill levels, from students new to Orff instruments to experienced mallet players looking for a challenge. Every participant has an important role, and the focus is on collaboration, creativity, and the fun of making music together. A 15-minute presentation will be held for families on the final day of class. Instructor: Drew Scott, Prairie Primary School Music Teacher
