We will work on recognizing and strengthening executive functions/skills (the fundamental brain-based abilities needed to, among other things, get and stay organized, stay focused, and control impulses and emotions). We will learn about how these relate to confidence, independence and living up to potential now and in the future. Students will learn about their own strengths, weaknesses, and learning styles. We will learn about the power of positive thinking, including positive affirmations, as well as the word “yet”. We will learn how setting SMART(ER) goals can help our focus and outcome. We will learn how to create and maintain good habits. Students will go home with resources to continue building upon what we start in this class. Participation in class is required, including presentation of a project. Homework will be provided. Instructor: Audra Eckes Audra grew up on Long Island. After earning an MS in Deaf Education, she worked as a Teacher of the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing in NYC, Long Island, and Maryland. She moved to NC in 2007 for her career but wound up becoming a bonus mom to a child who eventually needed to be homeschooled. So, in 2014, a new “teaching”/learning adventure began. Besides learning and teaching, Audra’s other interests include reading, writing, photography, dog rescue, and spending time with her family.
