About This Activity
In this club, students will learn urban dance vocabulary and the historical context of various movement styles. The main dance styles taught include Rocking, Breaking, Locking, Popping, House, and other Hip Hop social dances. Students will then work with groups of friends to compose short pieces of choreography, which will be performed for the rest of the club participants in an informal setting. There will be an emphasis on exploring the history of social dance while connecting the roots of these dances performed in the streets and clubs with how many are now performed and shared through social media. This is the perfect club for students interested in learning about the popular social dance trends found on social media today!
