About This Activity

Fun games and activities to help each student internalize multiplication concepts and practice the skills. When it comes to teaching math facts, I don't believe memorization should be the goal, but it will invariably be the result of practice, practice, practice in a variety of contexts. We will use some manipulatives, build some legos, and a lot more fun activities. If you want to start in advance, practice skip counting over the summer. My personal favorite manipulative for this is Apple Jacks, so when I successfully finish skip counting by whichever number I'm working on, I can eat the Apple Jacks. I find it very motivating to keep myself practicing. We will have test-like evaluations at the beginning of the semester, mid-semester, and at the end of the semester. These are an invaluable learning tool, and will not be pressurized events. Students should already have fully mastered addition. Instructor: Stephenie Stevens Ms. Stephenie has been homeschooling her two youngest children, Allen and Cooper, since 2018; Allen will be graduating this year! She has previously taught several classes at THE and has been involved with the D&D and Chess Clubs. She has had a well-rounded education, acquiring bachelor's degrees in both Genetics and Literature. Though her math and science skills are strong, her passion lies in the humanities. She nostalgically recalls early college days when she sat among peers pontificating about the meanings of life, the universe, and everything. The core of her educational philosophy is that teachers should be guides for students, showing them how to think and how to evaluate their thinking, rather than what to think. The core of her philosophy is to let every one prove themselves through their actions, to be and to encourage others to be kind, and to give grace to self and others.
