About This Activity

Reusing-meets-art-meet-introspection + creative students = personalized, meaningful conceptual art. Whether a student is naturally artistic or just has something to say, this class allows students to focus on a single random idea and develop it over the course of the semester either in separate small projects or a single long project for self-expression. This is not a class to learn art techniques. It is a class allowing students to think and create freely, to enjoy the process of creation, to find fulfillment in getting out what is inside that words can't touch. Each week will present new materials, and students are welcome to bring any materials in which they find inspiration. During the creative process, we might listen to music, poetry, inspirational speeches, silence or something else. Instructor: Stephenie Stevens Ms. Stephenie has been homeschooling her two youngest children, Allen and Cooper, since 2018; Allen will be graduating this year! She has previously taught several classes at THE and been involved with the D&D and Chess Clubs. She has had a well-rounded education, acquiring bachelor degrees in both Genetics and Literature. Though her math and science skills are strong, her passion lies in the humanities. She nostalgically recalls early college days when she sat among peers pontificating about the meanings of life, the universe, and everything. The core of her educational philosophy is that teachers should be guides for students, showing them how to think and how to evaluate their thinking, rather than what to think. The core of her personal philosophy is to let every one prove themselves through their actions, to be and to encourage others to be kind, and to give grace to self and others.
