Dive into the history of the people who walked the ground beneath your feet. This is a site specific exploration of the people, economy, and ancestors who were here hundreds of years ago. In this class we will dive deep into the people who lived near and around where we are taking classes at The Homeschool Experience on Lake Wheeler Rd. Historic Yates Mill is only a short distance from THE. We’ll learn about the history of the mill and the people who worked there. And organize field trips to go see the mill. Instructor: Melissa Platero Melissa Platero is a homeschooling mom of 3 since 2005. She's a graduate from the UNC Greensboro School of Education and has a BS in Middle Grades Education with second majors in English Literature and History. Her first love is theatre arts and was a theatre scholarship award winner from Kilgore College. She's also a graduate from Wake Technical Community college with an Associate of Science Degree. She loves teaching science and has experience teaching at the Greensboro Science Museum and working for a grant at UNCG funded through the National Science Foundation.
