About This Activity

Biomimicry is the practice of taking inspiration from nature to create solutions to meet human needs in a sustainable way. Over the course of this program, students are introduced to the concept of Biomimicry and study real rocky intertidal animals as inspiration for sustainable design. Students work cooperatively in a team and interact with live animals. Using the information they have learned about coastal animals, students will apply this knowledge in designing their own sustainable research station in small groups and presenting it to their peers. This class includes a dissection. Students create a model of their biomimicry-inspired research station as part of their final project. Students are encouraged to bring their own cleaned recyclables such as cardboard tubes, egg cartons, berry baskets, rinsed yogurt containers, bottle lids, etc. This program requires a minimum number of students in order to operate. If the program is canceled due to low enrollment you can choose between a refund or a credit to your ACTIVE account to be used for another program, camp, or public event.
