Participants in this program will be introduced to a wide variety of percussion instruments! Students will explore how each instrument works, what role it plays in music, and how different sounds can blend together to create a full and exciting percussion ensemble. Throughout the program, students will learn basic percussion fundamentals, technique, rhythm, tempos and essentials. Instruction will focus on age-appropriate listening skills and musical coordination. Students will also practice dynamic control, timing, and patterns, helping them develop both artistic confidence and motor skills. Each student will be led toward an instrument that best matches their learning style, coordination, and strengths, allowing every student to feel successful and engaged. While everyone will have a role, the group’s main goal is collaboration by learning how new sounds come together to create a diverse, balanced, and collective percussive performance. By the end of the program, students will have gained hands-on experience with multiple percussion instruments, improved timing and functions and an understanding of how teamwork and listening are necessary in making wonderful sounds, all while having fun an energetic, creative environment to be themselves! Instruments we will be exploring this semester: Bongo, Egg Shakers, Vibra Slap, Wood block. Finger cymbals, Sleigh bells, Guiro, and Drum pads. Please note: Participants must be enrolled in our Sierra Kids After-School Program to attend. Our Music Program will be held at Mount Rose, Cauglin Ranch, and Roy Gomm. Be sure to register for the correct location. Your child must already be enrolled in the Sierra Kids after-school program at that specific school to attend our music program. Cost: $75 for the session. Days: 2 week program on Monday, Wednesday, & Fridays for 2.5 hours each day
