Summer Boost is designed to reinforce foundational reading, math, and work habits/skills required for rising Kindergarten and First Grade students after a summer away from the classroom. Teachers will use songs, movement, and manipulatives to re-establish classroom routines, such as those used with calendars, whole group instruction, and small group activities. Foundational reading skills covered include high-frequency word recognition, blending and segmenting word parts (phonemes), writing uppercase and lowercase letters, and building overall reading confidence. Math concepts covered will include a review of basic number sense skills (i.e., number order, numeral/number word recognition, skip counting), as well as the addition and subtraction processes using Singapore math strategies and methods. The goal is for our younger students to enjoy an engaging week and have an extra boost into the new school year! **Please note that a morning snack, water bottle, and an extra change of clothes in your child’s backpack will be needed.*** Hours: 9:00- 12:00 Sample routine: 8:15-8:30 - Arrival 8:30-8:50 Calendar activities/rug time 8:50-9:30 - Reading or Math 9:30-10:00 - Bathroom, Snack, and Recess 10:05-10:40 - Reading or Math (groups switch) 10:45-11:15 Outdoor math and reading games 11:20-11:30- Pack up and dismissal Please note this year there is a cancellation fee of $50 should you choose to withdraw from any camp after registering.
