With nature as our inspiration and our own innate creativity as our guide, we'll explore how change is the only constant in life. Autumn is the perfect time to notice transitions—observing the glory of the fall colors and how the fall lets go into winter. By accepting change as inspiration rather than something to avoid, we'll experience how the creative process can support our well being. We'll use natural objects in concert with basic art materials to make two- and three-dimensional collages, paintings, and drawings, then use these creations as prompts for spontaneous writing and personal exploration. Classes will include a combination of reflective writing, art making, and mindfulness-based activities. Participants are asked to bring a writing journal for their personal use to each class, all other materials included in the registration fee. Instructor Barbara Davis, MSW, MFA, REAT, LCSW, is a therapist, artist, and educator with degrees from RISD and Rutgers University. She discovered the healing power of the arts as a teenager and has since dedicated her career to exploring its benefits for mental, physical, and spiritual well-being.
