About This Activity
Kawandi—a traditional style of hand-stitched quilting practiced by the Siddi community, an African diaspora group in Western India—is noted for being assembled from the outside in using scrap fabric and a unique technique of quilting in a spiraling line. The few, loose rules give delightful, unpredictable results. In this one-night class, we'll craft a small, decorative quilt using your own fabric scraps. Materials list available on our website or by calling 207-236-7803. Instructor Gianna Bird, art teacher, silversmith, and jewelry maker, is most happy making things and problem solving. A recent arrival to the midcoast from Massachusetts where she helped found Five Crows gallery, Gianna manages and hosts the online community "Crafting an Artful Life" teaching watercolor, bookmaking, art journaling, and myriad crafts.
