We will be making a cowl using various knitting techniques. Prerequisite skills: casting on, knit stitch, purl stitch, binding off. Skills we’ll cover: various textured stitch motifs, yarn overs, simple lace patterns, cables, knitting from a written pattern, “reading” your knitting, and fixing mistakes. A materials list will be emailed to each student prior to the start of class. Instructor Karen Vellekamp is a retired math teacher who has been knitting for forty years. She taught herself to knit after finishing college. Her specialty is making sweaters; and her winter wardrobe consists almost exclusively of her knitted garments and accessories. She is also quite skilled at fixing mistakes in knitting (which is handy since she makes a lot of them) and often helps others with their knitting "disasters."
