About This Activity
Embark on your journey to learn guitar! Whether you wanna rock out on chords or learn hardcore solos and heart-tugging melodies, this course will get you on track to enjoy what you play and enjoy playing. This course focuses on the bare-bone basics you’ll need to begin—how to care for and tune your instrument, moving on to hand health and how playing guitar can support hand health and prevent arthritis, and finally getting into playing! You’ll learn how to read guitar tablature, chord diagrams and lead sheets, and how to practice efficiently to ensure you beat the learning curve and can get jamming as soon as possible! Students must bring their own guitar. We can connect you with the instructor if you need guidance about buying an instrument. Class skips 10/22. Instructor Sofija Kleinschmidt is a young visionary within the music world who aims to cultivate a safe and inspiring learning environment in which students feel safe and excited to take risks and learn! After retiring from a ten-year opera career, she gained experience across all genres including jazz, metal, folk, and pop, and released music as an independent artist. Her family came to Maine from Lithuania during the breakup of the Soviet Union.
