About This Activity
(Literature) We will be looking at the History of America through the Literature of Americans. Starting with Native American stories of creation, of hunting and warriors. We will then transition to the stories of the first explorers. We will look at the Puritan Tradition, the fiery writings of the Revolution, the Spirit of Individualism with Romanticism and Trancendentalism, ending with the Gothic writings that show us the dark side of Individualism. PARENT NOTES: We will be discussing different worldviews & religious beliefs but from a Christian perspective. We may discuss some difficult topics like slavery & exploitation. Authors will include Native American Tales, William Bradford, Olaudah Equiano, Anne Bradsheet, Jonathon Edwards, Whitman, Thoreau, Emmerson, Poe, Etc. There will be some homework, mostly reading, so that we can focus on discussion & projects in class. Teacher(s): Jennifer White
