About This Activity

JAZZ Nation All-State Improvisation Intensive Take your jazz audition preparation to the next level with our All-State Improvisation Intensive, designed specifically for students preparing for Region and All-State Jazz auditions. This focused three-hour session will help students build confidence and develop practical skills for approaching the improvisation requirements of the audition. Students will work with professional jazz educators on understanding chord changes, developing melodic ideas, navigating the blues and common jazz progressions, and applying jazz language, phrasing, articulation, and style to their improvisation. Participants will also receive access to JAZZ Nation’s specialized improvisation resources and practice materials to continue developing their skills beyond the clinic. The session will be led by Dr. Adrian Ruiz of St. Mary’s University, providing students with direct instruction, guidance, and feedback in a focused, supportive environment.
