In this introductory 3D printing and TinkerCad class, students in grades 3–4 will explore the exciting world of 3D design and printing. The course will begin with an overview of what 3D printing is, how it works, and its real-world applications. Students will learn about the basic parts of a 3D printer and how they interact to take an idea on the screen to something you can hold in your hand. By presenting ideas in an engaging and age-appropriate way, students will gain the confidence to take an idea and turn it into reality. The course will continue by introducing TinkerCad, an intuitive online design tool perfect for young 3D designers. Students will learn how to create simple 3D shapes and models. As the course progresses, more detail and complexity will be added to their designs. Through individual and group activities, students will build their creative and problem-solving skills. Throughout the class, students will see their designs brought to life through the 3D printer, leaving them with a sense of accomplishment and inspiration to keep creating. What comes next is up to them.
