This three-week workshop introduces middle school students to the art of live theater, taking drama from page to stage. The focus is on learning how to be seen, heard, understood, and believed. Students will also learn skills in stage management, set design, lighting, and sound. Course work includes in-class journaling, text and character analysis, rehearsing scenes and monologues, improv games, and exploring both verbal and non-verbal communication. Students build skills in creativity, collaboration, and confidence while working in Drew’s professional-level theater. Throughout the workshop, students gain a comprehensive understanding of the rehearsal process and engage in self-evaluation through writing and discussion at the end of each unit. The experience will culminate in a live performance on the last day of the summer session. Whether you’re new to theater or already have stage experience, this workshop offers something for everyone.
