Who’s better at playing hide-and-seek—our Sea School campers or blennies? We’ll find out this week as we learn all about these teeny-tiny, vibrant fish that love to stay hidden but are nothing short of adorable. In fact, we think they’re the perfect fish to celebrate during a Sea Squirt Week because, just like our youngest explorers, they bring tons of silly energy to any habitat and have charismatic, spunky personalities. Blennies are small, bottom-dwelling fish with modified pectoral fins for perching, big, bulgy eyes, and upturned mouths. They’re often spotted in the intertidal zone, peeking out of crevices or holes in rocks, sand, or shells. We’ll channel our inner blennies this week with lots of hide-and-seek, fort-building, and creative “territorial” displays. We’ll perch on rocks as we search for other fun wildlife and camouflage ourselves into the sand. With lots of giggles, games, and sneaky skills, we’ll prove that being small, spunky, and curious can be a whole lot of fun.
