Sssss – Sssss…what’s that coming from the bush? It’s a scaly, squamate and they’re all over Sanibel! That’s right, snakes, anoles, iguanas, are the reptilians that are reppin’ their scales on this island. You’ll find these ectotherms catching some of those warm Sanibel rays in the trees and bushes or even right out in the open on the bike paths! This week we’ll roam the wild places inland on Sanibel and search for these sun-soakin’ reptiles while we learn about energy conservation and heat generation. We’ll be able to identify the reptiles that are born ‘n raised here in Florida and those that were hitchhikers from afar, and are now considered invasive. We’ll spend some time exploring in the weeds this week, but of course, we’ll catch some waves in the Gulf and soak up as much sun as we can on the beaches!
