This course comprehensively explains how barrier islands take shape, evolve over time, and distinguish themselves from mainland environments. We will explore what makes Sanibel and Captiva unique and their vibrant conservation history. Equipped with field guides, binoculars, and nature journals, students will traverse the landscape of Sanibel, meandering through estuaries, hammocks, and dunes to witness the island's rich biodiversity up close.
