In this class, girls and boys learn about the intersection of art, science and technology. Campers discover the concepts of mechanical design and robot technology through constructing DIY gadgets and gizmos, exploring a robot’s mechanical movement and machine intelligence, and fashioning soft circuits and kinetic sculptures. The skills learned such as crafting, tinkering, assembly, wire welding/shaping, and circuitry will allow campers to go on to build more sophisticated DIY and robot creations. Students will: • Create DIY projects: o Craft fabric wearables with fashion soft circuits and wire welding o Shape and weld wire into expressive kinetic sculptures powered by small motors • Construct the loveable KIKO.893, an infrared sensor detecting, obstacle exploring robot and learn the mechanics of how it moves. KIKO.893 has two pre-programmed modes (Follow-me and Explore) and scans its surroundings by using AI (artificial intelligence), I/R (infrared sensor). It loyally follows any object that approaches it and won’t stop until switched back into explore mode! Kiko.893 goes home with each camper as their BFF! • Design independent electronic projects with “lil Bits Kiko.893, fashion soft wearables and motorized kinetic sculptures go home with students!
