About This Activity
Trailblazers will dive deeper into the art and science of wildlife tracking this week. Campers will learn how to track and trail animals by identifying footprints, scat, feathers, nests, burrows, and feeding signs, and by interpreting these clues to reveal animal movement and behavior. We’ll study skulls of local mammals, practice listening for bird language, and challenge ourselves to move quietly and observe intentionally in the field. A visit to the Wildlife Center in Española offers an up-close look at rescued raptors and other animals, and an opportunity to discuss conservation and human–wildlife relationships. This week emphasizes advanced observation skills, teamwork, and a deeper connection to the wild world around us.
