Description
The City of Santa Maria Fire and Recreation and Parks Departments and the Santa Maria CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) are sponsoring free CERT training for teens who live in Santa Maria. The program is designed to prepare teens for disasters and emergency response when the need arises.The Teen CERT program is particularly recommended for teens interested in careers related to disaster management, emergency response, healthcare, public safety, and social services. The class sessions will include actual graphic visual materials depicting emergency scenarios, including injuries. The realistic approach is designed to prepare teens for real-life emergencies. Parental evaluation of their children’s readiness and sensitivity for such content is suggested before registering.
A free Youth Center membership is required to participate. Daily attendance per session is required for certification. A lunch will be provided daily courtesy of the McClelland Street Market. Questions may be directed to the Recreation and Parks Department at (805) 925-0951 extension 2260.
Priority registration is given for teens who live within Santa Maria. Non-City Residents will be able to register starting June 15th if space is available.
