Students will explore the core elements of music—rhythm, melody, harmony, and expression—through the lens of jazz. Through singing, movement, and hands-on instrument discovery, young musicians will learn about the rich history of artists, their iconic styles, and the cultural roots that shaped this uniquely American art form. Activities encourage active listening and rhythmic play to help build needed skills to prepare students for future instrument learning. This class is designed for students who are ready to participate independently. Because our space has limited capacity and we want to ensure there’s enough space for students to move and engage fully, we ask that only one caregiver be present as an observer. Each session is eight weeks, with two special weeks at Week 4 and Week 8.
