About This Activity

MAPS PNW Seminary is a 3-year program with the objective of elevating the Islamic literacy of our community. Two classes are offered each semester, and students may enroll in one or more classes as per their needs and availability. At the end of the program, students will receive a diploma and be able to meaningfully serve in the community. Classes Principles of Ḥadith (w/ Imam Adam in Redmond) Wednesdays (7pm-8:30pm): This course introduces students to the foundational concepts of the hadith sciences, offering a clear understanding of how prophetic traditions were preserved, authenticated, and interpreted by classical scholars. Students will explore core terminology (mutawātir, mashhūr, etc.), methods of classification (ṣaḥīḥ, ḍaʿīf, etc.), and the principles used by scholars to evaluate narrators and texts. This will allow for students to gain an appreciation for the depth and rigor of the hadith tradition. Contemporary Issues (w/ Imam Akram Baioumy in Seattle) Tuesdays (7:30pm-9pm): This course examines the major intellectual, social, and moral challenges confronting Muslims today. The goal is to equip students with an Islamic framework to understand, analyze, and respond to modern debates with clarity. Students will explore historical contexts, classical + contemporary arguments, and scholarly Islamic positions to develop well-rounded, logically sound perspectives. Topics covered include: Islam and Violence Perennialism Capitalism and Socialism Apostasy Slavery Feminism Debunking Zionism Islam and LGBT: Gender, Sex, and Morality in the Modern Age Islam and Politics Mental Health (Addiction) Quraniyyūn claims * Time might not allow for all topics to be covered Financial aid available.
