In this class you’ll work in metal and wood to create 3D art that is characterized by motion. You may be familiar with bright, balancing mobiles, but kinetic art also includes other standing and wall mounted sculptures with moving parts—sculptures that often invite fascinating interactions from viewers. You’ll look at some pioneering artists and their work, then use principles of design—such as line, space, and balance—to design your own unique kinetic sculpture. You’ll learn to work with wood and also the cold metal processes of cutting, bending, drilling, and riveting to fabricate wire, bars, and tubing. There will also be plastic, glass, and other materials to incorporate into your work—truly a mixed media sculpture worthy of a museum. Teaching Artist: James Brandalise
