About This Activity
Description
At the Y we are devoted to strengthening the spirit, mind and body of our youth. This program is designed to teach participants the basics of cheerleading. Basic tumbling, cheers and stunting will be introduced to the team. The team will learn a basic routine and cheers.
The YMCA puts safety first and emphasizes positive competition. Our YMCA youth cheerleading program is committed to youth development through an instructional league that emphasizes the fundamentals of cheerleading, as well as teaching age appropriate cheers. Sportsmanship and teamwork are also a focus during these games and practices. Participants are broken up into age appropriate brackets.
Cheerleading offers any child the chance to get active and have some fun cheering for our teams! Our cheerleaders will build self-confidence and self-esteem while developing social skills and healthy relationships. Learn the fundamentals of cheer-leading which include basic motions, jumps, cheers, and chants over each session. Cheerleaders will receive a t-shirt, and use of POM POMs.
Volunteer Opportunities: YMCA sports are based on seven guiding principles--everyone plays, safety first, fair play, positive competition, sports for all, sports for fun, and family involvement. Our sports are supported by parent volunteers who are engaged as coaches, referees, and raving fans. If you are interested in being a volunteer coach this season, please contact Katerina Hantzis at khantzis@suncoastymca.org
Times of Practices and Games are typically an hour and vary based off your child's age and number of participants.
