About This Activity

Description

Getting a child involved in sports at an early age has proven to help them develop social, interpersonal, and athletic skills. That's why our Rookie Leagues are a great opportunity to introduce your child to all the fun sports have to offer.

YMCA Rookie Sports is designed to introduce children to the basics of sports in a fun and inviting environment. The leagues focus on teaching new skills and fundamentals of the sports while emphasizing learning, confidence building, socialization and most of all, HAVING FUN! It is a 50/50 developmental style, which is half learning and half play.

This league runs 6 weeks; it is on Saturdays only.

Program Requirements:

  • Please bring a water bottle labeled with your child's name.
  • Wear athletic and comfortable clothing.
  • Close toed shoes are required. Cleats are optional.
  • MUST be potty trained.
  • Game uniform and end-of-season awards provided by the YMCA!
  • Children must participate in 4 sessions to receive an award.
The program runs ONLY on Saturdays.

Spectators should bring a chair to use for sitting for all YMCA programming of practice and game days.

VOLUNTEER COACHES ARE ALWAYS NEEDED!YMCA sports are based on seven guiding principles: Everyone plays, safety first, fair play, positive competition, sports for all, sports for fun, and family involvement. Our sports are supported by parent volunteers, who are engaged as coaches, referees, scorekeepers, and raving fans.
The YMCA uses volunteers to provide leadership to the community through structured athletic activities. In person training sessions will be held before the seasons and online training is also available. YMCA staff guidance is provided throughout the season.
If you are interested in volunteering, please click to link for our Coaching Interest form: Coaching Interest Form

PARENT COMMUNICATION:All notifications will be done using the Remind App, with a direct invite from the email and phone number provide at registration. If you are not sure which email address and/or phone number is on file, please stop at member services to verify and update your contact information.

SPECIAL REQUESTS:Our priorities are creating a playing environment that allows players to be on balanced and fair teams, placing your child on a team that practices on one of your requested evenings and/times, and helping our parent volunteers have equal access to resources to help players grow in skills and have a fun season.

FRIENDS:We understand that playing sports with friends can make the experience more enjoyable. However, we want each parent to encourage their child to view their team placement with an open mind. If they are lucky and placed on a team with another player that they already know, then that is fantastic. We are not able to accommodate requests. Please help them see this an ch chance and opportunity to meet new players and gain more friendships. Cooperating with new teammates is a great growth of experience, and remind them that they still will see their friends outside of the program.
