About This Activity

Description

Girls Sand Volleyball League

At the Y, our girls sand volleyball league helps youth develop fundamental skills while learning teamwork, strategy, and sportsmanship. Skills that are taught include serving, setting, bumping, spiking, and the rules of the game. The focus of this program is to have fun, make new friends, and play volleyball in a hybrid recreational-competitive environment.

This league is a 7-week season - 1 practice and 1 game per week.
Practice will be on Mondays and games are played on Wednesdays, which are played in the sand.
Uniform and end of season award are provided by the Y.

***PRACTICE TIMES & GAMES TIMES ARE NOT SET UNTIL THE FIRST WEEK OF THE PROGRAM. ALL GIRLS WILL SHOW UP AT 6:00PM FOR THE AGE GROUP FOR THE FIRST WEEK!

Program Requirements:

  • Comfortable athletic attire.
  • Sunscreen is suggested.
  • Bring a refillable water bottle, and please clearly label all items with your child's name.
  • Practice and games occur on a outdoor sand-pit.
  • Knee pads, arms sleeves and sand socks are suggested but not required. Shoes are not allowed in the sand.
  • You are welcome to bring your own ball for practice, yet not required.

Spectators should bring a chair to use for sitting for all YMCA programming of practice and game days.

VOLUNTEER COACHES ARE ALWAYS NEEDED!YMCA sports are based on seven guiding principles: Everyone plays, safety first, fair play, positive competition, sports for all, sports for fun, and family involvement. Our sports are supported by parent volunteers, who are engaged as coaches, referees, scorekeepers, and raving fans.
The YMCA uses volunteers to provide leadership to the community through structured athletic activities. In person training sessions will be held before the seasons and online training is also available. YMCA staff guidance is provided throughout the season.
If you are interested in volunteering, please click to link for our Coaching Interest form: Coaching Interest Form

PARENT COMMUNICATION:All notifications will be done using the Remind App, with a direct invite from the email and phone number provide at registration. If you are not sure which email address and/or phone number is on file, please stop at member services to verify and update your contact information.

SPECIAL REQUESTS:Our priorities are creating a playing environment that allows players to be on balanced and fair teams, placing your child on a team that practices on one of your requested evenings and/times, and helping our parent volunteers have equal access to resources to help players grow in skills and have a fun season.

FRIENDS:We understand that playing sports with friends can make the experience more enjoyable. However, we want each parent to encourage their child to view their team placement with an open mind. If they are lucky and placed on a team with another player that they already know, then that is fantastic. We are not able to accommodate requests. Please help them see this an ch chance and opportunity to meet new players and gain more friendships. Cooperating with new teammates is a great growth of experience, and remind them that they still will see their friends outside of the program.
