About This Activity

Mlkiknewawti (mel-gig-new-oh-di), meaning that which gives you strength in Mi’kmaq, invites Indigenous youth to learn together on the land this summer. The Mlkiknewawti Land-based Education Program brings students entering grades 9-12 together at St. Peter's in Unama'ki, and is led by staff and instructors from SuperNOVA at Dalhousie. Working with Indigenous partners, Elders and Knowledge Keepers, the program centres community priorities and educational goals through land-based activities that provide students with opportunities to explore STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) through a lens that integrates western science with Traditional Knowledge. Participant Eligibility: Indigenous high school students entering grades 9-12 in Fall 2026 Dates: July 19-24th, 2026 Location: Camp Rankin, St. Peter's, Unama'ki, NS What’s Included: - 6-day, overnight camp - Meals, snacks, and accommodations will be provided Cost: Free As a low-barrier program, we aim to make Mlkiknewawti as accessible as possible. If there are any circumstances that make enrolment and/or participation a challenge, please let us know and we will do our best to make this program possible for you.
